Magoosh was established in 2009 by Hansoo Lee, Bhavin Parikh, Pejman Pour-Moezzi and Vikram Shenoy while they were trainees at the Haas School of Organisation at UC Berkeley. In June 2009, Magoosh launched its very first product– GMAT mathematics practice questions with video descriptions.
Over the next 2 years, as Magoosh’s consumer base began to broaden, the GMAT product and the Magoosh group continued to grow. Reviews Magoosh. Pejman stepped far from business in 2010 to pursue other chances but stayed on the board. Hansoo and Bhavin employed two full-time employees and, with them on board, developed a new preparation program for the GRE.
In December 2011, Magoosh handed out 800 free SAT accounts to high school trainees through partnerships with Bay Location non-profit companies. It was also around this time that Bhavin’s co-founder Hansoo Lee was diagnosed with an unusual case of non-smokers’ lung cancer and had to eliminate himself from daily operations.
Bhavin Parikh and former co-founder Pejman Pour-Moezzi, along with Lee’s fiancée Wendy Lim, founded The Hansoo Lee Fellowship for Business Owners, which is used each year to support Haas MBA trainees wanting to pursue their entrepreneurial ventures full-time. After Hansoo’s death, Bhavin became the CEO and the only remaining co-founder of Magoosh.
In 2015, it launched full prep programs for the ACT, LSAT and Praxis tests. And in 2016, the business released a complete MCAT product. To date, Magoosh has about 30 in-office employees at its workplaces in downtown Berkeley and more than 1.5 million students have actually used Magoosh’s web and mobile apps to prepare for standardized exams.
